Sound Cultures

Listening opens the imagination and changes our perception of space, time, presence, and emotion. Sound is rich in that it contains elements of a social system in motion. The importance of listening varies between cultures with a significant difference between industrial and non-industrial societies. Listening allows one to face the challenges of our environment and the ability to analyze the force behind our sonic space. How we use the power of sound affects our perceptions and ability to develop deep concepts about how our culture interacts and sustains itself. The combination of aural and visual media illustrates a society absorbed in consumption and mass-production. Using sound is an effective means to illustrate and associate cultural and personal values within society.
